ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO TO HELP ANIMALS IN IOWA IS TO LET YOUR STATE OFFICIALS KNOW THAT ANIMAL WELFARE IS IMPORTANT TO YOU!
State officials you need to communicate with include city, county and state office holders. State legislators, county sheriffs and county attorneys especially need to hear from you.
During the 2010 legislative session, which begins January 11, 2010, you'll receive requests from Iowa Voters for Companion Animals to contact your legislators, either by email or telephone, to voice your opinion.
Some sample language is provided under the Correspondence Template tab.
It is important to note that the work we're doing is at the STATE level, not the federal. So there is no need to contact our U.S. senators and representatives: Sen. Tom Harkin, Sen. Chuck Grassley, Rep. Leonard Boswell, Rep. Bruce Braley, Rep. Steve King, Rep. David Loebsack, and Rep. Tom Latham. Links to their websites are provided for your reference.
ALSO ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY IMPORTANT... YOU MUST BE REGISTERED TO VOTE!
Elected officials are in their position because someone voted for them! And they are there to serve the public good. They are there to do that which the majority of their constituents want. Or they won't be reelected. It's that simple.
So in order for your opinion to matter at all, you must be registered to vote and you must vote when election time comes around!
You can go to the Iowa Voter Registration webpage to learn how to register.
