Iowa Voters for Companion Animals will be hosting a Dog Walk around the Capitol building in Des Moines to commemorate National Puppy Mill Awareness Day, Saturday, September 18, 2010. Bring your dog and enjoy the Capitol grounds.

Registration starts at 9AM on the West Mall of the Capitol. We'll have some speakers; Sen. Matt McCoy, Sen. Staci Appel, Sonya Heitshusen of WHO Ch. 13 News.

We've invited rescues and shelters to set up displays to promote themselves and to show off the dogs and cats they have available for adoption.

Please bring an item to donate to a shelter or 2; pet food, pet toys, old towels, blankets, newspapers, cleaning supplies, etc. Monetary donations are always nice, too.

We've asked shelters and rescues around the state to host something similar in their own town, so check with your local animal-welfare group to see if something is being planned, or if you'd like to organize something, check out our free kit to help you get started. Offer to help if you can! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
